BUILDING BRIDGES TO THE TREACHEROUS WATERS OF EVANGELICALISM(Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - One of the reasons why most IFB churches will be emerging within a generation is that they are messing around with the treacherous waters of evangelicalism and/or the equally treacherous waters of contemporary worship music. I witnessed this on a recent preaching trip to the States. I preached two Bible conferences in Pennsylvania, but I also visited a couple of IFB churches with relatives in other places, and I was deeply disturbed by what I saw. One church was using a book by Randy Alcorn for the Sunday School lessons. Alcorn is a deeply compromised evangelical who glowingly recommends the writings of Mark Driscoll of Seattle, where they have champaign dance parties and rock & roll “worship” in a darkened building and the usherettes wear mini-skirts and where Catholic contemplative mysticism is promoted. This IFB church had books by other evangelicals for sale in its bookstore with no warning. If a Bible-believing church does use materials by evangelicals, such as those by Answers in Genesis, the people must be educated about the compromise that exists in these ministries.Typically, though, in churches that are messing around with evangelicalism, the members aren’t properly educated, because the pastor himself is either ill-informed or enamored by what he finds among “conservative evangelicals.” When a fundamentalist preacher begins to give up on separation, he still claims to believe in it, but he doesn’t love it, and the compromise and softness of evangelicalism resonates with his own spirit. Another IFB church that I visited, which in past decades was solid, featured contemporary worship choruses and a special by the pastor’s daughter that used a backbeat CCM soundtrack. In both services, the pastor’s message was biblical, but there is death in the pot and these pastors don’t seem to have a clue about the danger that exists in their own churches. They regard themselves as solid and uncompromising, but they don’t want to hear warnings like this and they don’t encourage their people to read informational publications such as O Timothy magazine and the Friday Church News Notes. (For extensive documentation on this subject see the following free eBooks:  New Evangelicalism; The Path from Independent Baptist to The Shack, Rome, and Beyond; The Treacherous Waters of Evangelicalism; Why Most Independent Baptist Churches Will Be Emerging, and the following free eVideo downloads: The Foreign Spirit of Contemporary Worship Music, and The Transformational Power of Contemporary Praise Music, available at www.wayoflife.org.)  THE FLAMINGO’S CROOKED BEAK (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The flamingo is one of the majestic creatures that God created for His glory and for the delight of man. On a trip to a zoo earlier this year I took the accompanying photo and was wondering about the bird’s bent beak. It looks like it was broken in half, the front part painted black, bent downward, and then rejoined. The reason for the bend is to facilitate the bird’s feeding habit. The flamingo is a filter feeder like the oyster and the baleen whale. It feeds in shallow water on tiny organisms, and the bent beak becomes horizontal with the bottom of the lagoon or pond when it bends its head down to feed. As the bird moves its head from side to side, its tongue pumps water through the beak (moving back and forth in a groove about four times a second) and a complex sieve-like structure intelligently captures crustaceans, tiny insects, and algae.  Everything about the flamingo is amazing, including the living cells of which it is made, its brain, its eyes, its flying feathers, its legs, all its organs that work in perfect harmony, its keen senses, its ability to fly, to feed itself, to navigate, to migrate, to procreate. Did you know that the flamingo stands on one leg because this reduces the amount of body heat lost to cool water? Or that the flamingo feeds its chicks with a pink milk-like substance? Evolutionists call such things as the flamingo’s beak an “adaptation,” but they have never provided any scientific evidence for how creatures and organs could come into being through “natural processes.” “Natural selection” is not a creative power, and mutations are overwhelmingly harmful. If evolution is true--that everything came from nothing, and life arose from non-life, and intelligence came from non-intelligence, and complex creatures arose from “simple” ones, and everything we see in the universe just happened--it is a far more amazing concept than Almighty God.   BAPTIST SEMINARY DEAN TO JOIN HANDS WITH ROME (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Timothy George, dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, is representing the Baptist World Alliance at a synod of Catholic bishops in Rome this month. He is expected to take an active part in the proceedings (“Baptist Present at Catholic Synod,” Associated Baptist Press, Oct. 3, 2012). George will join hands with about 200 Catholic bishops in this forum. The synod marks the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, which prepared the Roman Catholic Church for the ecumenical movement that has swept through Christianity over the past half century toward the creation of the one-world harlot church prophesied in Scripture. Joseph Ratzinger, who participated in Vatican II as a theological advisor to Cardinal Joseph Frings, is the current pope with the name of Benedict XVI. The synod in which George is participating, the 13th Ordinary General Assembly of Bishops, is geared toward promoting Rome’s “New Evangelization” program to reclaim nominal Catholics and to promote religious unity as a supposed beachhead against “secularism.” The reverence of Mary plays a large role in the “New Evangelization.”   GETTYS JOIN HANDS WITH NEW AGE HERETIC (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Keith and Kristyn Getty write popular “contemporary hymns” that are being used widely among fundamental Baptist churches today. At least eight of their songs are included in Majesty Music’s newest hymnal. Typically, the lyrics are Scriptural and the tunes are folkish or soft rock ballad style (though the Gettys do rock hard in their own concerts). The Gettys are an integral part of the exceedingly dangerous world of contemporary worship music which represents the foreign spirit that is building the one-world harlot church. Their goal is to “bring everyone together musically” (www.keithgetty.com). They want to “bridge the gap between the traditional and contemporary” (www.gettymusic.com/about.aspx), but Bible-believers should know that this is a “gap” that must not be bridged, as it is a gap between Christ and the world, between the Spirit and the flesh, between true churches and harlot ones. This month the Gettys joined hands with emerging heretic Leonard Sweet at the National Worship Leader Conference in San Diego. Sweet calls his universalist-tinged doctrine New Light and “quantum spirituality” and “the Christ consciousness” and describes it in terms of “the union of the human with the divine” which is the “center feature of all the world’s religions” (Quantum Spirituality, p. 235). He defines the New Light as “a structure of human becoming, a channeling of Christ energies through mindbody experience” (Quantum Spirituality, p. 70). Sweet says that “New Light pastors” hold the doctrine of “embodiment of God in the very substance of creation” (p. 124). In Carpe Mañana, Sweet says that the earth is as much a part of the body of Christ as humans and that humanity and the earth constitutes “a cosmic body of Christ” (p. 124). Sweet lists some of the “New Light leaders” that have influenced his thinking as Matthew Fox, M. Scott Peck, Willis Harman, and Ken Wilber. These are prominent New Agers who believe in the divinity of man, as we have documented in the book The New Age Tower of Babel. Sweet has endorsed The Shack with its non-judgmental father-mother god, and he promotes Roman Catholic contemplative mysticism and dangerous mystics such as the Catholic-Buddhist Thomas Merton. Churches that are messing around with contemporary worship music are building bridges to this extremely dangerous world. (For further documentation see the book Contemplative Mysticism, which is available in print and eBook editions from Way of Life Literature -- www.wayoflife.org.)  PLAYING GOD: GENDER SELECTION (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from “Boy Crazy,” World, Sept. 21, 2012: “Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg, director of The Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles and New York City, has for several years offered a fertility procedure allowing affluent couples to choose their baby's gender. [Gender] selection, outlawed in many countries, is legal in the United States: Steinberg’s clinics have treated ‘thousands’ of couples from India, China, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and 142 other nations. ... Steinberg admitted his clinics have recently seen a ‘huge growth’ of Chinese clients. Almost all of them--98 percent—ask for a boy. So do most Indian couples. Both countries ban [Gender] selection, but it’s practiced illegally because of cultural preferences for boys. Several U.S. clinics perform [gender] selection using preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD): Doctors obtain the couple's sperm and eggs, mix them in a dish, and implant only a few embryos of the desired gender. Steinberg typically performs PGD by fertilizing eight or nine eggs and implanting just one embryo, discarding or freezing the others.”  FORMER CHIEF JUSTICE SAYS GAY MARRIAGE WILL BE “ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION OF OUR NATION” (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from “Roy Moore Says,” Blog.al.com, Oct. 6, 2012: “Speaking to a rally of the DeKalb County Tea Party, Roy Moore, who is seeking to regain the office of chief justice [of Alabama], called the upcoming national election a choice between two fundamentally different paths for the country. ‘We cannot continue to borrow the future of our children and our grandchildren or we will suffer the consequences. We can’t keep going into debt. We can’t keep disparaging our military and promoting things like sameSex marriage, L-G-B-T. To hear the President of the United States say that we are promoting L-G-B-T. Let's think about what that is: lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered rights,’ Moore said. ‘SameSex marriage will be the ultimate destruction of our country because it destroys the very foundation upon which this nation is based. Divisive, I've been accused of being divisive; I'll tell you what's divisive. It’s this Democratic platform,’ Moore said. The national Democratic Party last month offered its first formal support for sameSex marriage rights. ... ‘Today we've got to go back to that U.S. Constitution. We’ve got to go back to the acknowledgement of God for very basic, relative reasons. People have forgotten why we need God. But let me tell you, without God, you have no rights,’ Moore said.”  BLACK MOBS TAKE OVER STORES (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The breakdown of law and order in some parts of America is evident from the following report, which is excerpted from “Black Mob Hijacks Store” by Colin Flaherty, WorldNetDaily, Sept. 2, 2012. The black churches, for the most part, are so worldly that they have no spiritual power and are as much a part of the problem in the black community as the rap culture and the welfare state: “Even the old-timers in Detroit never have seen anything like this: A mob of 40 black people moved into a convenience store and will not leave. They say they now own it. They eat. Smoke. Cuss.Threaten. Spit. Rob. Sell drugs. All on video. Police, ministers, neighbors, the store owner and just about everyone else seems powerless to stop them. ‘It’s a Bad Crew gas station,’ said one of the mob to the local Fox affiliate. ‘If you don’t know what that is, I can’t even tell you.’ The owner calls police, but nothing happens. The police ‘come here and then they leave. Two minutes later they (the mob) are back.’ Earlier this month, members of the Perfecting Church, one of Detroit’s largest black congregations, counseled the members of the mob to stop their evil ways. Nothing changed. Which is not all that surprising: In June, the church’s pastor, Marvin Winans, lost a $15,000 Rolex, a Louis Vuitton wallet with $200 in it and his 2012 Infiniti QX56 SUV after he was carjacked by a mob of 10 black people at a similar convenience store nearby. This is the same pastor who gave the eulogy for Whitney Houston.”  THE GRAHAMS’ WRETCHED ECUMENISM (Friday Church News Notes, October 12, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Billy Graham has led evangelicals in the path of ecumenism and affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church since the 1950s. He has turned thousands of converts over to Roman Catholic and modernistic Protestant churches. His policy was stated plainly by the vice-chairman of the organizing committee of a Vancouver, British Columbia crusade, “If Catholics step forward THERE WILL BE NO ATTEMPT TO CONVERT THEM and their names will be given to the Catholic church nearest their homes” (David Cline of Bringhouse United Church, Vancouver Sun, Oct. 5, 1984). In 1989, Michael Seed, Ecumenical Advisor to (Catholic) Cardinal Hume, said of Graham’s London crusade: “Those who come forward for counseling during a Mission evening in June, if they are Roman Catholic, will be directed to a Roman Catholic ‘nurture-group’ under Roman Catholic counselors in their home area” (John Ashbrook, New Neutralism II, p. 35).  In his 1997 autobiography, Graham said his goal was not to lead people out of Roman Catholicism (Graham, Just As I Am, p. 357). In a January 1997 interview on Larry King Live, Graham said that he has wonderful fellowship with Rome, is comfortable with the Vatican, and agreed with the Pope on almost everything. In a May 30, 1997, interview, Graham told David Frost: “I feel I belong to all the churches. I’M EQUALLY AT HOME IN AN ANGLICAN OR BAPTIST OR A BRETHREN ASSEMBLY OR A ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. ... And the bishops and archbishops and the Pope are our friends” (David Frost, Billy Graham in Conversation, pp. 68, 143). FRANKLIN GRAHAM is walking in his father’s disobedient footsteps. Not long after taking over the Graham Evangelistic enterprise Franklin told a newspaper reporter that his father’s ecumenical alliance with the Catholic Church and all other denominations “was one of the smartest things his father ever did” (“Keeping it simple, safe keeps Graham on high,” The Indianapolis Star, Thurs., June 3, 1999, p. H2).   CONCLUSION: The Friday Church News Notes is designed for use in churches and is published by Way of Life Literature’s Fundamental Baptist Information Service. Unless otherwise stated, the Notes are written by David Cloud. Of necessity we quote from a wide variety of sources, but this obviously does not imply an endorsement. We trust that our readers will not be discouraged. It is God’s will that we know the times (1 Ch. 12:32; Mat. 16:3) and that we be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves. The News Notes remind us that the hour is very late, and we need to be ready for the Lord’s coming. Are you sure that you are born again? Are you living for Christ? “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof” (Rom. 13:11-14).
