A Surprise Party on the River!

On Saturday, August 11th we had a surprise birthday party for my Father-in-law. As you scan through these pictures you will see many pictures of family and loving friends.

Frank Lascelles turned 75 last month but Lynn and I were out of state in Chattanooga, TN at a conference on his birthday.

It was a great day to yell "Surprise!" After a very hot couple of months, we had one of the prettiest days of summer to enjoy a great man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend! Frank never met anyone who wasn't "family"!

We think we were able to pull off the big "surprise" for my Father-in-law. All the way to his camp sight on the river, he kept saying to my mother-in-law every time he saw another bouquet of balloons, "Looky there Bess, somebody is having a birthday party!" Then as he was coming down his road and approaching his camper, he said, "Looky there Bess, I think our neighbor is having the birthday party!" I don't think he realized it was his party until someone stuck the hat on his head!

Frank's cousin Kenny came up from southern Illinois to help us surprise my father-in-law!

My dad and Dick Garmin enjoying some fellowship while Frank and Shorty read one of his many cards. I can remember riding with my dad a lot as a kid, and stopping at Dick's service station that was located on Mississippi Drive. The men would talk about God and I would drink my soda pop and listen. Dick and Marcene were very influential people in my life while I was growing up.

Don Steinke, the Grill Master, earned a big piece of cake for dessert!

So many great memories of watching the barges go by on the Mississippi!

Frank & Bessie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last November!
